Happy Tuesday to you! What a Monday…. let’s just say I had some exciting decisions to make on the building lot. Today is the day where we start the foundation – I hope. So I met the builders last night to clarify and answer a few questions. It feels like I have been on the phone all day everyday trying to organize everything but I am having fun – so I can’t complain. Now onto the topic at hand today – STRAWBERRIES.
It is Strawberry Season!
The strawberry is a member of the rose family and is unique in that it is the only fruit with seeds on the outside rather than the inside. They are also a very healthy fruit, being rich in vitamin C, a good source of folic acid as well as being high in fibre. Strawberries capture the flavor of sunshine whether they’re as small as unshelled almonds or as big as goose eggs. Below is my list of the “Zesty Top 10 uses for Strawberries”
- Shortcake
- Jam
- Muffins
- Sundae
- Pie
- Salad Toppers
- Straight Up
- Smoothies
- Cereal Additions
- Chocolate Dipped
So my plan for today is to get as many comments as possible with food ideas and uses for strawberries. I cannot wait to hear them all and after that – I may treat everyone with a strawberry recipe at some point this week.
I hope you have a great Tuesday and I will keep you posted on the build.
Take care
zesty

- Grilled on skewers
- Used as “sandwiches,” filled with whipped cream.
Can’t forget Strawberry Pancakes!
Just made fresh cream puffs with berries in sugar and a bit of whipped cream…divine!
I have to say that “chocolate dipped” would have to be my number one choice!
great idea!
waffles
scones with basil (I made them and they’re great!)
ice cream
salsa
On top of angel food cake or ice cream! Yum!
french toast! inside and out!
Cheesecake…definitely on cheesecake!
ah! the perfect summer post.
Oooh, I 100% agree with you, strawberry shortcake is the best strawberriy dish!! Another great way to enjoy them is stuffed with almond butter
Drizzled with balsamic vinegar!
I second the balsamic vinegar. With some really awesome balsamic vinegar, they taste so much more flavorful!
Salad toppers and cereal additions are my two favorites
I also like them frozen, on a hot summer day!
mmm… fresh + dipped in dark chocolate :] absolutely LOOOOVE the classic strawberry shortcake!!!! i need me some of that asap!!!
actually i’d like to see strawberries used in any savory dish. i don’t ever see that….
and of course anything pastry related is delicious!!!…
i like mixing strawberries into my oatmeal while i cook it.. it gives it a beautiful pink color.. and it tastes and smells wonderful!!!
bbq sauce, salsa, sorbet/ice cream, chutney?, any sort of breakfast/baked good…, blended into cream cheese…
Strawberries with balsamic vinegar and black pepper is excellent! I like them chopped with bananas, and also in this jello salad thing my mom makes, but I have no clue what’s in it!
Yay for Strawberries! They are by far my favorite fruit!
I like them soaked in some wine but have also made strawberry salsa.
My favorite use for strawberries….strawberry short cake! For the strawberries: 1 quart sliced strawberries, 2-3 tablespoons granualted sugar, and 2 tablespoons Grand Mariner. Combine all ingredients and cover. Let stand in fridge for at least 30 minutes or as long as 4 hours.
With a couple spoonfulls of yogurt. Yum. The perfect treat at the end of the day.
I love them in parfaits. Also, in a salad on mixed greens with balsamic vinaigrette with dried blueberries and cranberries….mmmm this post is makign me hungry!
This is pretty much the same as chocolate covered, but a little different…I like to stuff them with carob chips!
Carob doesn’t seem to melt very easily so this is a nice way to get that flavor without making a hideous mess!
strawberry and yogurt this is my favourite…
tahnks for sharing this yummy strawberry photos
